Declaration of Independence The Declaration of Independence states the principles on which our government, and our identity as Americans, are based.
Democracy a system ruled by a government of people
Stamp Act the British government passed the “Stamp Act” to help pay for British troops stationed in the colonies during the Seven Years' War. The act required the colonists to pay a tax, represented by a stamp, on various forms of papers and documents.
Intolerable acts a series of four laws passed by the British Parliament to punish the colony of Massachusetts Bay for the Boston Tea Party.
Boston Tea Party 340 chests of tea were destroyed in Boston Harbour. This political and mercantile protest was one of the key events in the lead up to the American Revolutionary War and, ultimately, American independence.
