ARTISAN A craftsperson-makes cool stuff that your average person couldn't.
Civilization What this whole class is about!!! A society marked by 'developed' arts, sciences, gov't., and SOCIAL STRUCTURE!
cuneiform Writing that uses wedge-shaped characters. Really the first recorded writing system.
culture What makes a civlization unique- beliefs, behaviors of a society/group of people.
merchant A person who makes money by selling goods.
pictograph a symbol that stands for an object.-usually painted on something.
scribe a person who writes.
social structure The way a civilization is organized.
technology The use of tools or other inventions for practical purposes.
ziggurat An ancient Mesopotamian temple tower with outside staircases and a shrine at top.
capital A city that is at the center of government.
economy The way a region or country uses resources to produce, sell, trade goods or services to meet people's needs and wants.
empire A large territory in which several groups of people are ruled by a single leader or gov't.
siege A military blockade and attack on a city to force it to surrender.
tribute Wealth sent from one country or ruler to another as a sign that the other is superior.
