| a.m. care | helps to set the tone for the entire day. If the patient is refreshed and comfortable before eating breakfast, the day is off to a good start. |
| caries | prevent tooth decay. |
| dentures | dentures are fake teeth made to fit tightly in the patient's mouth. |
| halitosis | eliminate bad breath. |
| oral hygiene | care of the mouth and teeth. |
| periodontal disease | must be removed by a dental professional. Damage occurs if plaque and tartar are not regularly removed from the teeth. |
| p.m. care | the care given to the patient just before bedtime is similar to that given in the early morning. |
| anticoagulant | Medications that thin the blood and increase the risk of bleeding |
| bridging | elevates and area of the body off the surface of the bed |
| foot board | device placed between the matress and bed to keep the feet at right angles to the legs |
| foot drop | the legs calf muscle to tighten causing the toes to point downward |
