General Comfort Measures
| Term | Definition |

| a.m. care | care given in the early morning when the patient first awakens |
| Caries | tooth decay or cavities |
| Dentures | artificial teeth |
| Halitosis | bad breath |
| Oral Hygiene | care of the mouth and teeth |
| Periodontal Disease | potentially serious condition that damages the soft tissue and bone that support teeth |
| p.m. care | care given to prepare a patient for sleep |
| Anticoagulant | medication that thins the blood and increase the risk of bleeding |
| Bridging | supporting the body on either side of an affected area to relieve pressure on the area |
| Foot Board | appliance placed at the foot of the bed so that the bed so that the feet rest firmly against it and are kept at right angles to the legs |
| Foot Drop | neurological problem that causes the foot to point downward |
| Incontinent | inability to control the flow of urine from bladder |
| Fracture Bedpan | is used for patients who cannot elevate the pelvic area |
| Commode | a plastic toilet seat, holding a chamber pot under the seat for patients who can't make it to the bathroom |
| Urinal | used my male patients when they need to urinate, (duct or bottle) |
