| full weight-bearing (FWB) | able to stand on both legs |
| gait belt | belt placed around the patients waist to help ambulate |
| manual patient handling | moving a patient by hand or bodily force/pushing,pulling,carrying,holding |
| mechanical lift | use to transfer dependent or heavy patients from one surface to another. |
| nonweight-bearing (NWB) | unable to stand or walk on one or both legs |
| paralysis | loss the ability to move parts or the body |
| paresis | weakness of an extremity |
| partial weight-bearing (PWB) | unable to bear full weight on one or both legs |
| pivot | to twist or turn in a swiveling motion |
| sitting (lateral) transfer | moving a patient from one surface to another with patient sitting |
| sliding board | a plastic or wooden board 2 feet long is for sitting lateral transfer |
| standing transfer | patient moved from one surface to another while standing |
| weight-bearing (WB) | having the ability to stand on one or both legs |
