Marie Antoinette Last queen of France, married to Louis XVI. Owned her own land Fun fact: This land was near Versailles palace and included her own smaller palace and a fake village. I've been to both!
Maximilien Ropespierre Leader of the French Revolution. Brutal.
Napoleon Very successful general. Later ruled France during the Empire.
Reign of Terror A time when many people were executed if Robespierre suspected them of opposing the revolutionq
Estates General A new representative assembly with nobility, clergy, and commoners. Before the revolution, only nobility could be in the legislature.
1st Estate The clergy. The estates are the social classes in France.
2nd Estate Nobility. The estates are the social classes in France.
3rd Estate Commoners. The estates are the social classes in France. Fun Fact: Wealthy commoners (the middle and upper middle class) were called bourgeoisie. We get the slang term "bougie" from this word.
Storming of the Bastille The bastille is a prison in Paris, France where the monarchy put political prisoners. On July 14, 1789 revolutionaries stormed the prison and fortress to seize it. Fun fact: this day is celebrated by the French every day as Bastille Day.
Tennis Court Oath The third estate vowed not to stop meeting until a constitution was written.
Guillotine A device that efficiently beheads people. Fun fact (not really that fun): The guillotine was last used to execute someone in 1977.
