Tribute system A set of practices requiring a show of subordination from all non-Chinese authorities and a payment of tribute to the Chinese emperor.In return, they would receive trading right and valuable gifts.
Xiongnu Empire An imperial state made by the nomadic steppe people who inhabited the Northern lands of China, stretching from Manchuria to Central Asia in the 2nd and 3rd century CE.
Silla Kingdom The first ruling dynasty to bring political unity to the Korean Peninsula from 690 to 900 CE.
Hangul A phonetic alphabet developed in Korea in the 15th century.
Shotoku Taishi A Japanese statesman who launched the drive to make Japan into a centralized bureaucratic state from 570 to 620 CE
Bushido The martial values of Japanese samurai, including bravery, loyalty, and death over surrender.
Chu nom A variation of Chinese writing developed in Vietnam, becoming the basis for an independent nation literature.
