Preamble the introductory part of a statute, deed, or the like states the following reasons and intent.
Congress The national legislative body of the U.S. consists of the Senate, or upper house, and the House of Representatives, or lower house, as a continuous institution.
elastic clause a statement in the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 8) granting Congress the power to pass all laws necessary and proper for carrying out the enumerated list of powers.
chief executive the powers of the chief executive, as granted by the Constitution
federal judiciary the judiciary of the federal government
judicial review the courts are vested with the authority to determine the legitimacy of the acts of the executive and the legislative branches of government
Federalism a system of government in which the same territory is controlled by two levels of government
supremacy clause federal law takes precedence over any conflicting state law.
