TermDefinition
Caste System in Indian civilization, a strict social structure based on birth - includes wealth, job, and family background
Civil Service people who work for the government and take care of daily administration tasks, but are not elected
Covenant An agreement
Deity a god or goddess
Dynasty a series of rulers from the same family or group
Ethics ideas on how to determine what is right and wrong
Exile a punishment where a person is forced to leave the country or a certain place
Filial Piety the idea that people should respect their parents and elders
Monotheism belief in one god
Monsoon a seasonal wind which lasts for several months, always blow from cold to warm regions and are located in the Indian Ocean
Nobility people with high rank in a social hierachy
Peninsula land surrounded on three sides by water
Philosophy the study of the basic ideas about knowledge, right and wrong, reasoning, and the value of things
Polytheism belief in more than one god
Scribe a person whose job was to record information and study new ideas
Shrine a sacred place or object that is devoted to a holy person or god
Standardize to change so that everything has the same features
Subcontinent area of land that is part of a larger continent, made up of a number of countries that form a large mass of land
Terracotta a brownish-red clay that has been baked and is used for making things such as pots, statues, and tiles.
