TermDefinition
Acute A condition that starts suddenly, can be severe, but is usually short.
Chronic A condition that persists or recurs and can be severe.
Contusion A bruise, or blood under the skin caused by trauma.
Abdomen The tummy area from the lower ribs to the pelvis.
BMI Body mass index, a measure of body fat based on height and weight.
BP Blood pressure, a vital sign recorded during a physical examination.
CPR Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a life-saving technique also known as mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
ED/ER Emergency department/Emergency room
DNR Do not resuscitate
NPO Nothing by mouth
Parkinson's disease A disorder of the central nervous system that affects movement, often including tremors.
Alzheimer's disease A progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions.
Crohn's disease A chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the lining of the digestive tract.
Huntington's disease An inherited condition in which nerve cells in the brain break down over time.
Lou Gehrig's disease A nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function.
