agriculture Growing crops and raising animals for food and other products.
desalination The process of removing salt from seawater to make it drinkable.
embargo A government order that stops trade with another country.
human environment interaction How people affect the environment and how the environment affects people.
Import Goods that are brought into a country from another place.
Export Goods that are sent out of a country to be sold elsewhere.
Fertile Crescent A region in the Middle East where some of the first civilizations began because the land was good for farming.
Totalitarianism A type of government where a small group of people holds all the power.
Oligarchy A type of government where a small group of people holds all the power.
Theocracy A type of government where religious leaders rule the country
Revolution A major change in society, government, or technology, often achieved through rebellion.
Monotheism The belief in just one god.
Polytheism The belief in many gods.
Pilgrimage A journey made for religious reasons, usually to a sacred place
Population Density The number of people living in a certain area.
Human Rights Abuses Violations of people's basic rights, like freedom or safety.
Primary Source Original documents or objects from a historical time period.
Secondary Source Information written or created about a historical event after it happened.
Refugee A person who has to leave their country because of danger or war
Migration The movement of people from one place to another.
Civilization An advanced society with cities, a government, and social structures.
Society A group of people who live together in a community with shared laws and traditions.
Irrigation A way of bringing water to crops through channels or pipes.
Immigrant A person who moves to a new country to live.
Migrant A person who moves from one place to another, often for work.
