Vasco Da Gama First to sail from Europe to India by going under Africa, sailed for Portugal.
Amerigo Vespucci Came up with a theory that North and South America were separate continents, pamphlets were published that referred to the area dubbed the “New World” as America.
John Cabot Discovered Newfoundland and Cape Breton Island, sailed for England.
Vasco Nunez de Balboa He founded the first stable settlement on the South American continent and was the first to see the Pacific Ocean, sailed for Spain.

Expedition A journey/voyage taken by a group of people with a purpose, especially exploration, scientific research, or war.
Isthmus A strip of land surrounded on three sides by water.
Circumnavigate To sail/navigate around the world.
Mutiny A rebellion against authority, especially when a group of people refuse to obey orders or attempt to take control from those in power.
The Northwest passage The sea lane between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through the Arctic Ocean to get to Asia.
Scurvy A disease caused by a lack of vitamin C.
Cartographer A person who makes maps.
Navigator Person in charge of ship, shows the route to take.
Astrolabe Tool that navigator used to measure the sun and stars.
