Mid Term Terms

Anemia Decreased amount of RBCs or hemoglobin in the blood
Antecubital fossa Part of the arm at the bend of the elbow
Bacteremia The presence of bacteria in the blood
Phlebitiis A condition resulting from inflammation of the vein
Phlebotomy The practice of opening a vein for drawing blood as a diagnostic procedure
Hematocrit The proportion of the total red blood cells to the total blood volume
Hemoglobin The oxygen carrying protein of red blood cells
Thrombosis The presence or formation of a blood clot (thrombus) within a vessel
Venipuncture The puncture of a vein
Vasoconstriction Narrowing of the blood vessels that results from contraction of the muscular walls of the vessels
Vasodilation Widening of blood vessels due to the relaxation of the blood vessel's muscular walls
Anticoagulant A substance that prevents blood from clotting
