Legalism A Chinese philosophy known for its clear laws and vigorous punishments
Confucianism A chinese philosophy made by Confucius, who advocated for the moral example of superiors
Ban Zhao A major Confucian author of China known for implicating confusion laws for women around 100 AD
Daoism A Chinese philosophy founded by Laozi known for wanting a simple way of life with the natural world
Vedas The earliest religious text of India, a series of peoms hymns and rituals written down 600 BC
Upanishads An India philosophical works written around 600 BC
Siddhartha Guatama An Indian prince whose exposure to human suffering led him to enlightenment, allowing him to form the basis of Buddhism around 500 BC
Theravada Buddhism An early form of Buddhism where Buddha was a wise teacher, but not divine, emphasized practice rather than belief
Mahayana Buddhism A popular development of Buddhism which gave greater roles to supernatural beings and to compassion
Bhagavad Gita A Hindu epic text that showed that ordinary people could find spiritual fulfillment by doing ordinary tasks of their lives
Bhakti Movement Began in south India 600 to 1000 AD involving intense adoration of a particular deity through songs and prayers
Zoroastrianism A Persian monotheistic religion founded by Zarathustra emphasizing free will and choice between good and evil
Judaism A monotheistic religion developed in the Middle East emphasizing a sole personal God with concerns for social justice
