Paleolithic Era, Neolithic Revolution, Mesopotamia (Sumer, Babylon and Judaism)

Nomadic Moving from place to place without a permanent home in search of food
Paleolithic Age Old Stone Age; period when people first made tools from stone
Hunter-Gatherer Nomadic people who lived by hunting animals and foraging for plants, nuts, fruits and vegetables.
Agriculture The practice of farming, Growing of crops and raising of animals to provide food that allows people to settle in one place.
Domestication Changing the growth of plants or behavior of animals in ways that are useful for humans.
Cultivation Prepare and work on land in order to raise crops
Migration Movement of a group of people from one place to another
Surplus Having more of something than is needed
Hominid An early ancestor of Homo Sapiens; a group of human beings and humanlike creatures that preceded them.
Homo Habilis Man with ability
Homo Erectus Man who walks upright
Homo Sapiens Man who thinks
Technology Tools and skills people use to meet their needs and wants
Religion The beliefs and practices about the existence, nature, and worship of a god or gods
Language The method of communication, either spoken or written.
Social Classes Groups of people that occupy different ranks or levels in society.
Economy System a community uses to produce and distribute goods and services (jobs/trade/money)
Architecture The art of practice of designing and constructing buildings
Cultural Diffusion The sharing or blending or ideas, technologies and beliefs.
Culture Beliefs, customs, practices, technology, government, and behavior that identifies a particular group of people.
Artifact Any object made by humans
Neolithic Revolution The New Stone Age; Man develops agriculture and begins to settle for long periods of time in one place giving birth to civilizations.
Pre-History historical events that occurred prior to the invention of writing.
History historical events that occurred after the invention of writing.
Australopithecus First pre-human hominids which existed about 4.4 million years ago.
Fertile Crescent An area of fertile farmland that stretched across Southwest Asia.
Irrigation A way of supplying water to an area of land
Empire Land conquered or taken over by an outside force or outside people.
Silt Rich fertile soil near rivers that is good for farming.
Canals Man made rivers that are good for farming
Ziggurat A pyramid-shaped temple, governmental building or storage unit in the middle of every Sumerian city-state.
Polytheism The belief or worship of many gods.
Monotheism The belief or worship of one god.
Hammurabi's Code The first set of codified or written laws invented in Mesopotamia by the Babylonian King.
Chariot A wheeled, horse-pulled cart used in battle.
Diaspora Spread of Jewish people outside of the Jewish homeland.
Torah The holy book of Judaism
Judaism First developed as a religion more than 3,000 years ago in the Fertile Crescent. The world's first religion based on one God who set down laws about right and wrong.
Ten Commandments Moral and ethical code given to Moses that told the Israelites how to behave toward God and one another.
Abraham Founder of Judaism; Father of Judaism; made a covenant with God to protect the Hebrews/Israelites/Jews and give them a homeland in Canaan (Present day Israel)
Moses Made a second covenant with God to lead the Jews out of Egypt where they were enslaved and faced persecution by the Pharaoh Ramses II. After Moses led the Jews out of Egypt God gave him the 10 Commandments.
Exodus The journey of the Jews out of Egypt.
