| Term | Definition |

| Equator | Imaginary line that determines the northern and southern hemispheres |
| Prime Meridian | Imaginary line that determines eastern and western hemispheres. |
| Continent | Large land mass. |
| Ocean | Large body of water. |
| Physical Map | Shows land features and bodies of water. Ex: Mountains, Hills, Seas, Oceans, Rivers. |
| Political Map | Shows major cities, capitals, and boarders. |
| Vegetation Map | Shows different types of vegetation (anything that grows on earth). EX: Tundra, Rainforest, Grasslands, etc. |
| Precipitation Map | Shows the amount of moisture that falls from the sky. ( Rain, snow, hail, sleet, fog). |
| Population Map | Shows the amount of people living in an area |
| Climate | Weather over a long period of time |
| Torrid Zone | Low Latitude. Between the Tropic of ancer and the Tropic of Capricorn- Near the Equator. The climate is hot because the sun rays hit directly. |
| Temperate Zone | Middle Latitude. Between the Tropic of Cancer and the Arctic Circle. Also, between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Antarctic. All four seasons (Goldilocks) |
| Frigid Zone | High Latitude. Between the Antarctic Circle and the south pole. Also, between the Arctic circle and the North pole. Very cold because no direct sun rays. (Frigid is cold like a reFRIGerator) |
