| alopecia | loss of hair, wool, or feathers |
| amnesia | loss of memory sometimes including memory of personal identity due to brain injury, shock, fatigue, repression, or illness or sometimes induced by anesthesia |
| amputation | to cut off (as a limb) from the body |
| analgesic | drug the relieves pain without blocking nerve impulse conduction without altering sensory function |

| bulimia | an abnormal and constant craving for food; a serious eating that occurs chiefly in females, is characterized by compulsive overeating usually followed by self-induced vomiting or laxative or diuretic abuse, and is often accompanied by guilt and depression |
