| extension | when a joint straightens |
| Abduction | the widening of the joint to move parts away from the body |
| Adduction | the joint narrows to bring parts back to the body. |
| tendon (ten/o, tend/o) | Connective tissue that connects muscle to bone |
| Ligaments | Hold bone to bone |
| Cartilage (chondr/o) | Surrounds the bone at the joints and allows smooth movement among them. |
| Bursa (burs/o) | sacs of fluid that lie under tendons |
| Cranio | head, skull |
| phalanges | the bones of the fingers and toes |
| radius and ulna | the two bones of the forearm |
| 4 sections of the spine | the neck (cervical); chest/upper back (thoracic); lower back (lumbar and sacral ) |
| Vertebrae | small bones that line the spine and protect your spinal cord |

| epiphysis | the end of the bone |
| epiphyseal plate | aka Growth Plate: Lies in the metaphysis (the area between the end of the bone and the long shaft of the bone). |

| hyperkinesia | abnormally increased and sometimes uncontrollable activity or muscular movements |

| ataxia | an inability to coordinate voluntary muscular movements that is symptomatic of some central nervous system disorders and injuries and not due to muscle weakness |
