Renaissance Vocab

Annul To cancel a marriage
Calvinism New version of Christianity started by John Calvin. Believed that salvation comes through faith and that the Bible is truth.
Catholic Reformation Catholic Church worked to fix corruption (abuse of power)
Heliocentric The sun is the center of the solar system
Heresy Religious belief that goes against the church's beliefs
Indulgence Forgiveness for a payment to the Roman Catholic Church
95 Theses A list of 95 things that Martin Luther believed were wrong with the Roman Catholic Church. He nailed it to the door of a church in Wittenberg, Germany in 1517.
Patron A person who gives money to support artists.
Predestination A believe that God chose who will get salvation (this is a believe that Calvinists have).
Protestant Reformation New Christian churches forming that believe differently than the Roman Catholic Church. (Two important ones started by John Calvin and Martin Luther).
Recant To give up on a belief
Renaissance A time in history with lots of new ideas, creativity, and change. It means "rebirth."
Secular not religious
Galileo Italian astronomer who taught the heliocentric model. (Also my favorite scientist)
