Blitzkrieg “Lightning war”, typed of fast-moving warfare used by German forces against Poland in 1939.
Appeasement Accepting demands in order to avoid conflict.
Munich Conference An agreement/conference that gave Germany the Sudetenland.
Pan-Asianism An ideology that promotes the unity of Asian peoples.
Fascism A political system headed by a dictator that calls for extreme nationalism and racism and no tolerance of opposition.
Nazi-Soviet Pact A secret agreement between the Germans and Russians that said that they would not attack each other.
Stalingrad Decisive battle in German invasion of Russia, the Germans were surrounded and systemically destroyed.
Pearl Harbor Base in Hawaii that was bombed by Japan on December 7th, 1941, which eagered America to enter the war.
Operation Overlord (D-Day) June 6th, 1944; Invasion of the beaches of Normandy France (Largest amphibious invasion ever).
United Nations (1948) Partitioned Palestine into the Jewish nation of Israel and the Arab Muslim state of Palestine.
Operation Barbarossa Codename for Nazi Germany’s invasion of the Soviet Union during World War II.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki Two Japanese cities on which the US dropped the atomic bombs to end World War II.
Nuremberg Trials Trials of the leaders, showed that people are responsible for their actions, even in wartime.
Holocaust The Nazi program of exterminating Jews under Hitler.
Invasion of Poland Germany invaded, breaking their agreement, so Britain and France declared war, starting World War II.
Battle of Midway 1942; World War II battle between the United States and Japan, a turning point in the war in the Pacific.
Island Hopping A military strategy used during World War II that involved selectively attacking specific enemy-held islands and bypassing others.
Fall of France June 1940; France and most of Europe was conquered by Germany. Left Britain alone against Hitler.
