| Jewish Diaspora | The Romans killed thousands of Jews & forced many others to leave Jerusalem. This scattering of Jewish people to different parts of the world is known as the Jewish Diaspora. |
| Canaan | Land bordering the Mediterranean Sea promised by God to Abraham & his descendants forever. (The Promised Land) |
| Judaism | Monotheistic religion practiced by the Israelites. Followers are called Jews. Emphasis on individual worth & personal responsibility. |
| Abraham | God told him to move his family from Mesopotamia to Canaan. God promised this land to Abraham & his descendants forever. |
| Moses | Israelite who with God’s help leads the Israelites out of slavery In Egypt in an event called the Exodus. Receives the Ten Commandments from God. |

| Ten Commandments | Teachings of God that focused on loyalty to God & have influenced the laws of many nations. |

| David | The 2nd king of Israel who founded the city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Defeated Goliath. Considered the greatest king. |
| Solomon | The 3rd king of Israel who built the First Temple (Solomon’s Temple) in Jerusalem. Son of David. |
| Jerusalem | The capital city of Israel; established by David. |
| Babylonian Captivity | Chaldean King Nebuchadnezzar forced thousands of Jews to leave Jerusalem & live in Babylon. They are later released by the Persians. |
