| TQM-Total Quality Maga | highest level of quality oversight is managed at the organizational level |
| QCM-quality cost management | system used to measure & manage the cost of quality |
| standards | rules of practice-these are defined and should be followed in order to meet customer safety & satisfaction requirements |
| patient outcomes | conditions & length of hospital stay to include error detection, corrective & preventive action |
| indicators | observable events used as evidence |
| evaluation | examine evidence found when measuring indicators |
| QC-quality control | activities that ensure specific steps in a process meet acceptable standards |
| parameters | acceptable standards or limitations |
| variances | deviations from a procedure or controls out of range |
| SOP- standard operating procedures | manual contains each test performed in a lab, explaining purpose, step by step instructions, limitations, normal & critical values |
| reliable | believable & dependable results that are reported |
| control material | material that has been prepared & tested by manufacturer that has a know value and is used to do a system check |
| calibration | procedure used to make sure equipment used is up & running properly to give accurate results |
| validation | ensuring accuracy & precision --making sure test is done and similar results will be found |
| Delta check | checking patients previous results to make a comparison |
| Levy Jennings | a chart showing acceptable limits on trends or shifts |
| trend | results showing upwards or downward progression |
| shift | a sudden jump in results that continue at the higher or lower level |
| random error | errors that happen once |
| QAPI-quality assessment & process improvement | to discover weaknesses in a process so it can be eliminated & improved for quality patient care |
| CQI-continuous quality improvement | continually working on eliminating weakness for patient improvement |
| audit | review of records |
| incident form | documents recording procedural or process errors |
| corrective action | helps eliminate the cause of an error or undesirable situation |
| preventative action | helps to ensure a problem does not occur or does not occur again |
| training | providing staff with knowledge to perform job correctly & accurately |
| competency assessment | documents an employee ability to perform assigned task correctly |
| proficiency testing | evaluating performance of a lab in comparison to another similar lab |
| QA-quality assurance | system of planned activities that assess operations an products to patient designed to guarantee quality patient care |
| systemic errors | errors that may occur consistently possible trending or shifting in one direction or another |
