Holocaust Vocab

TermDefinition
Aryan a member of the subgroup of Indo-European speakers ancestral to speakers of Indo-Aryan and Iranian languages.
Ghetto (WW2) the Jewish quarter in a city.
Refugee a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.
Genocide the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.
Antisemitism hostility to or prejudice against Jewish people.
Torah (in Judaism) the law of God as revealed to Moses and recorded in the first five books of the Hebrew scriptures (the Pentateuch).
Bias prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair.
Holocaust the genocide of European Jews during World War II committed by Nazi Germany.
Mischling a pejorative legal term which was used in Nazi Germany to denote persons of mixed "Aryan" and non-Aryan, such as Jewish, ancestry as they were classified by the Nuremberg racial laws of 1935.
Scapegoat a person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of expediency.
