| anatomic position | Position where the patient stands upright facing you, arms down their sides while palms are facing you. Feet are also facing foward. |
| prone | patient lays on their stomach, back up |
| supine | patient lays on their back, stomach up |
| abdominal cavity | cavity that holds liver, stomach, spleen, intestines, etc. |
| anterior | front of body |
| posterior | back of body |
| vertebral cavity | cavity that holds the vertebral column and majority of the CNS |
| superior | towards or closer to the head, upper part of the body |
| inferior | away from the head, bottom half of the body. |
| abdominopelvic cavity | cavity that holds both abdominal cavity and pelvic cavity |

| left hypochondriac | contains spleen |
| frontal plane | plane that separates the anterior and posterior part of the body |

| caudal | another word for inferior, towards the tail |
| transverse plane | plane that separates the superior and inferior part of the body |
| pelvic cavity | cavity that hold urinary bladder, the pelvic colon, internal reproductive organs, and rectum |
| hypogastric | lower/median area of the abdominal area; under the umbilical area. |
| distal | further away from the central of the body |
| Medial | closer to the midline |
| epigastric | above the abdomen |
| dorsal cavity | cavity that holds cranial and spinal cavities |
| superficial | towards the surface of the body |
| right lumbar | middle right part of the abdomen |
| thoracic cavity | cavity in the middle of the chest that holds heart and lungs |
| deep | away from the surface of the body |
| homeostasis | body maintaining a stable, healthy state. |
| right hypochondriac | upper right corner of the abdomen |
| sagittal plane | plane that separates the body from left and right at any point |
| dorsal | back of the body, posterior |
| left iliac | bottom left corner in the abdomen |
| ventral cavity | cavity that hold both thoracic cavity and abdominopelvic cavity |
| lateral | away from the midline |
| midsagittal plane | plane that separates the body into equal left and right parts. |
| proximal | close to the trunk of the body |
| right iliac | bottom right corner of the abdomen |
| coronal plane | plane that separates the anterior and posterior part of the body |
| cranial cavity | cavity holding the brain |
| left lumbar | outer left, middle area of the abdomen. |
