| 6th Century BCE second earliest of the principal styles. More slender, with a large base and two opposite volutes. | Ionic |
| 430 BCE, last of the principal styles. Slender, with an ornate capital, two rows of leaves and 4 scrolls. | Corinthian |
| A combination of the Corinthian and Tuscan orders. | Composite |
| 1100-1600, A masonry style, with reduced wall space due to overlaid tracery, flying exterior buttresses, long stained glass and ribbed vaults. | Gothic |
