What is an assembly? A law making body of government.
What is a jury? A group of citizens chosen to hear evidence and then make decisions in a court of law.
What is philosophy? The search for wisdom and the right way to live.
What are the Peloponnesian Wars? A war between Athens and Sparta in which the Athenians retreated behind the city walls, nearly got wiped out by a terrible disease, and eventually had to surrender because the Spartans cut off their grain supply.
Who is Pericles? Pericles was an Athenian leader around 450 BC who made sure poor and rich people could take part in government.
Who is Socrates? He was a philosopher who lived around the middle of 400 BC . Some of his ideas about the polis made people angry and was put on trial for "urging Athens' young people to revolt." He was decided guilty and snd sentenced to death.
Who is Plato? A student of Socrates who wrote down all of Socrates' teachings.
What is tbe Acropolis? It was the religious center in Athens, and it was larger than the other cities' acropolis's which is why it is usually spelled with a capital A.
What is the Parthenon? It was a temple to Athena in the middle of tall expensive buildings that can still be seen today.
Who is Alexander? He conquered many cities and became known as Alexander the Great. Becase of him, Greek culture spread to far off places.
Who is Aristotle? Aristotle was a famous philosopher and also Alexander the Great's teacher. Aristotle's teachings is the reason Alexander had a great respect for Greek culture.
Where and what is Macadonia? A powerful kingdom to the north of Greece. Macedonia conquered most of Greece under the rule of Alexander the Great.
Where and what is Alexandria? Alexandria was a city built in Egypt by Alexander the Great and was one of the most important cities in the Greek empire, which goes to show you hwo Greek culture was spread far and wide.
