| Antiseptic | substance that prevents infection |
| Bacteriostatic | the most commonly used antiseptic s 70% ispropyl alchol. Isopropyl alchol is bacteriostatic, meaning that it inhibits the growth or reproduction of bacteria but does not kill them |
| Butterfly | winged collection set or a butterfly |
| Clot Activators | promotes coagulation. Tubes that contain clot activators should be inverted 5 to 8 times |

| Gauge | describes the diameter of the needle |

| Thixotropic gel | is an insert, synthetic substance who density is between that of cells and that of blood serum or plasma |
| Tourniquet | impedes venous blood flow out of the arm, causing the vein to bulge |
| Tube Advancement Mark | adapter have a tube advancement mark indicating how far the tube can be pushed in without losing the vacuum |
| Tube Holder | needle adapter is also called a tube holder |
| Whole blood | is blood collected and mixed with an anti coagulation so that it will not clot |
| Winged Infusion Set | is used for venipuncture on small veins, such as those in the hand, and in elderly |
