| Alliances | A group of nations who make an agreement to help each other or defend each other |
| Militarism | The belief that a country should build up its military forces and prepare for war |
| Ultimatum | A threat saying that if someone does not do what you want by a particular time, you will do something to punish them. |
| Empire | When a powerful country controls several less powerful countries |
| Mobilize | To start to use things or people that you have available in order to achieve something. |
| Neutral | Not supporting any of the people or groups involved in an argument or disagreement |
| Front | A place where the actual fighting is going on during a war. |
| Stalemate | A situation in which it seems impossible to settle an argument or disagreement, and neither side can get an advantage |
| Total War | The type of war that requires a country and its people to give almost all attention and resources to the war effort |
| Rationing | Limiting the amount of something that each person can buy |
| Propaganda | The spreading of ideas to promote a cause or damage the opposing side. |
| Treaty | An official agreement between nations. |
| Armistice | An agreement between nations to stop fighting before a formal peace treaty. |
| Conference | A large formal meeting where a lot of people discuss important matters such as business or politics especially for several days |
