| corporation | a business owned by stock holders who share in its profits but aren't personally responsible for its debts |
| crop rotation | they system of growing a different crop in a field each year to preserve the land's fertility |
| enclosure | one of te fenced/hedged-in fields created by wealthy British land owners on land that used to be worked by village farmers |
| entrepreneur | a person who organizes, manages, and takes on the risks of a business |
| factors of production | the resources--including land, labor, and capital--that are needed to produce goods and services |
| factory | a large building in which machinery is used to manufacture goods |
| industrialization | the development of industries for the machine production of goods |
| Industrial Revolution | the shift from hand-making goods to making them by machine (starting in 18th cent. Europe) |
| middle class | a social class made up of skilled workers, professionals, businessowners, and wealthy farmers |
| urbanization | the growth of cities and migration of people into them |
