Why would Sparta clash so much with Athens? Athens The government was very close to a democracy and ruled by arisocrats. The woman stayed home and rarely came out They also were really into the arts and made a ton of theatres, statues, and music

What were some of the Greek Arts? Drama, Philosphy, Writings, Art

Tradegy When people have a bad horrific stuff inflicted on them and then in turn they learn a lesson

Who was Socrates? Was known for his teachings, yet everything that we know about his was told by mouth/he was anoyying and not a lot of people liked him
What is Socratic Method? When you answer a question with a question of yourself
How did Socrotes die? A guy turned that he teached named Alaibies turned into a traitor and they couldn't catch him so they killed Socrates instead because he was his teacher.
Who was Plato? Plato was one of sacrotes students and he is most known for his theory of "The Cave"-->We are born into the cave and we must get out of it in life, we need someone to lead us out of the cave He thought what was real were diffrent "forms" such as love,
Who was Aristotle? Was a student of Plato and he disagreeed with Plato on "The Cave" theory. He thought life as best veiwed from within the cave, you could just live by looking at the shadows instead of the big picture
Who was Herodotus? He wrote what some people thought was the first history book so some people call him "The Father of History". He wrote about the Palaponisan War.
Who was Thuycidies? Was born after Herodotus and some people think he is "The Father of History, he wrote about the Pursian War.
What is "Your ideal form"? The greeks didn't carve you with relism but with what they thought should be your "ideal form". The golden ratio was to be the same hight as your wing span.
What were the three types of colums? Deric, Ionic, Corinthians
What started the First Persian War? The Pursians took over the Greek Colonies on the Agean sea and the Greek people called for Athens to help - they lost miserable - yet this ticked off King Darvis so he took revenge a few years later.
How did the Greeks win agianst the Persians in the First Persian War? Miltiades, who was old yet had great military stradges, had them set up a phalanx down by Marathon by two rivers and cornered the Pursians in a Double Envelopment.
Who was Pheildippes? He was the guy who ran a whole bunch and then died (in short terms)
What started the Second Persian War? Xerxes was anoyyed that his father lost so he sawt to seek revenge on the Greeks for his fathers sake. It took him a bit because of a Civil War, building supply boats, and plotting there stratages.
What is the significants of Ester 1:1-12? It shows that Xerxes celebrated for 6 months and then 7 weeks which lead many to speculate was this his planning time?
What did Xerxes do diffrently than his father? He went by land, brought over 150,000 people (more people), and also brought supply ships.
What happened at the Helespont? Xerxes had them build a short of boat bridge to cross the Helespont. While also showing Hubris.
What happened when Xerxes was crossing "Hillbilly Greece"? He had his army built a canall so there supply ships could be close to the army at all points of time.
What happened at the Isthmus of Coranth? Sparta said to Athens that they would set up a mega Phalanx to protect the Palopenisian Ponensula. The Athens didn't like it so Sparta sent one of there kings over (Leonidas) and 300 shoilders.
What happended at Thermopolly? Sparta plus a butt ton of Athens set up a mega Phalanx to stail Xerxes. It staled them for a bit and ton of Pursains died.
What happened at The Island of Salamis? The Pursian Army boats were sunk by the Athens Trimrers and Xerxes took the first boat back to his homeland.
Trimrer A boat with 360 degree turn and a very shallow draught backing it sit about the water. It had three set of oars so it can go very fast. It also has a spear of a sorts on the front so they can ram enemies boats.
What happened at Platea? The last of the Pursians fell and the Greeks thought that they won only because they didn't show Hubrius like Xerxes had against there gods.
Who was Themistoclies? Was the war commander for the Athens and gave them the idea to fight with trimeres.
What happened after the Second Persian War? Athens grew in strength and size, then fell sort of apart as a ton of people moved to Coraniath because you were able to trade better and travle easier. There was a Palopinesian War that Sparta technochly won, yet is was pointless. Athens was then turned
