Briefly describe the relationship between the Old Testament and the New Testament The New Testament fulfils the Old Testament
What is the Old Testament? It is the story of the unfolding of God's gradual plan of salvation for us - and it reaches its climax with the death and resurrection of Jesus.
What are the similarities between the divisions of the Old and New Testaments? They are each divided into 4 parts: 1. Law (the Gospels) 2. History (Acts of the Apostles) 3. Wisdom (the Epistles) 4. Prophecy (Revelation)
Why are the writers of the New Testament called evangelists? The word Evangelist comes from the Latin word "evangelium" which means "good news".
Why are the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke called the synoptic Gospels? Synoptic means "seeing together" - these 3 Gospels share the same point of view
Who was the main audience for Matthew's Gospel? The Jews
Which Gospel represents the tradition taught by Peter? Mark's
Who was Mark's main audience? The Gentile Christians in Rome
Who was Luke's audience? Gentile converts (non-Jews who had adopted Christianity)
Name two reasons why Luke wrote his Gospel. 1. he wanted to give an orderly, chronological account of Jesus's life 2. He had information about Jesus's early life that the other Evangelists did not have
Name 4 stories from Jesus's early life that can only be found in the Gospel of Luke. 1. the Annunciation (angel comes to Mary) 2. the baby Jesus in the manger 3. the visit of the shepherds 4. Jesus teaching in the temple as a 12 year old

Who wrote the bulk of the Epistles in the New Testament? Paul

Why are the Catholic Epistles called the Catholic Epistles? The word Catholic means "Universal" - these letters seem to be addressed to the whole Church
How does Mark relate his Gospel? He relates in a very straightforward way - and focuses on Jesus' actions (things he did)
