World War 1 and Russian Revolution

Diplomacy managing international relations, usually as a treaty in order to maintain peace
Alliance formal agreement between nations for mutual support in case of war
Trench Warfare type of battle between opposing sides where they both attack each other from a network of ditches dug into the ground
League of Nations a world organization proposed by Woodrow Wilson after WWI as a forum for nations to discuss international disputes
Mandate System System created after WWI to administer and reorganize former German and Ottoman Territories
Reparations a fee that defeated countries must pay to the victors of war
Tsarist Being in support of the monarch of Russia and their system of government
Landless Peasantry Russian practice where the extremely poor are forced to serve the landowning nobility
Lenin's New Economic Policy A policy Lenin put in place. There was a free market and free trade however those freedoms were subject to state control and the government had control of the banks
Protective Tariffs Tax on foreign imported goods to further support their own nations manufacturers
Totalitarianism A government system that has a dictator and centralized power which requires complete control over the state
Entrenchment A trench or system of trenches dug to provide soldiers shelter from artillery and a place to eat, sleep, and wait during the war
Inflation Increase in prices when the value of money drops
Anti-Semitism Hostility or hatred of the Jewish people
Bolsheviks A group of Russian revolutionary Marxists that took power after the Tsar (Czar) fell
