Tigris & Euphrates Two major rivers in Mesopotamia.
Fertile Crescent Name referring to the good farmland in Mesopotamia.
Mesopotamia The name of the land between the Tigris & Euphrates.
Ur, Uruk & Eridu The first 3 O.C.’s (original cities) of Mesopotamia.
Akkad The 1st Empire. Began in 1800s BCE.
Babylon Developed a large empire around 1100 BC.
Assyria The last and largest Mesopotamian Empire.
Irrigation The system of bringing water to dry land.
Surpluses Having extra amounts of a particular item.
City-States The independently ruled settlements and the land they controlled.
Polytheism A religion that believes more than one god.
Ziggurat Mesopotamian City Hall/ town spiritual and government center.
Cuneiform Humanity’s first written language.
Scribes Professional Record Keepers.
Empire A large collection of territory controlled by one ruler.
King The unquestioned ruler of a city-state.
Tribute Payments to an empire from conquered areas.
Province A section of an Empire.
Military Having to do with war, weapons and soldiers.
Caravans Large groups of traveling merchants.
