TermDefinition
geography the study of the Earth’s physical and cultural features.
region an area with one or more features that make it different from surrounding areas.
climate​ the average weather conditions in a certain area.
landforms the natural feature of the Earth’s surface
continents seven great land masses of the world
latitude the east-west (parallel) lines in a grid. Measure the distance north and south of the equator
longitude the north-south (meridian) lines in a grid. Measure east and west of the Prime Meridian
Equator an imaginary line encircling the Earth equally distant from both poles. Divides the Southern Hemisphere from the Northern Hemisphere. Rays from the sun are most direct here
Prime Meridian​ Imaginary line that passes through the North and South Pole It also shows 0 degrees longitude
environment All the living and nonliving things that affect life in an area.
resources The materials found on Earth that people need and value.
diffusion the spread of people, things, ideas, cultural practices, disease, technology, weather, and more from place to place
compass rose a circle showing the principal directions printed on a map or chart.
cartography the science or practice of drawing maps.
