Physiological Density | The number of people supported by a unit of area of arable land |
Crude Birth Rate (CBR) | The total number of live births in a year for every 1,000 people alive in the society |
Crude Death Rate (CDR) | The total number of deaths in a year for every 1,000 people alive in society |
Natural Increase Rate (NIR) | The percentage by which a population grows in a year |
Total Fertility Rate (TFR) | To measure the number of children a woman will have throughout her child bearing years |
Infant mortality Rate (IMR) | The annual number of deaths of infants |
Doubling Time | The number of years needed to double the population |
Demographic Transition | A process of change in a society's population |
Agricultural Revolution | The time human beings first domesticated plants |
Industrial Revolution | Major improvements in the industrial technology |
Medical Revolution | Improved medical practices |
Zero Population Growth (ZPG) | A state in which a population is maintained at a constant level because the number of deaths is exactly offset by the number of births |
Population Pyramid | A country's population can be displayed by age and gender groups on a bar graph |
Dependency Ratio | The number of people who are too young or too old to work |
Sex Ratio | The number of males per hundred females in the population |
Epidemiologic Transition | Distinctive causes of death in each stage of demographic transition |
Epidemiology | The branch of medical science concerned with the incidence, distribution, and control of diseases that affect large numbers of people |
