| Sleep | Natural period of rest for the mind and body during which energy is restored |
| Biorhythms | The natural rhythms or cycles related to body functions that occur due to daily, monthly, or yearly changes |
| Insomnia | Inability to fall asleep or to remain asleep |
| Parasomnias | Sleep disorders |
| Somnambulism | Sleepwalking |
| Sleep Talking | Talking during sleep |
| Bruxism | Grinding, and clenching the teeth |
| REM Behavior Disorder (RBD) | Talking, often along with violent movements, during REM Sleep |
| Sleep Apnea | Disruption of breathing while a person is sleeping |
| Depressant | A substance that causes calmness and drowsiness |
| Stimulant | A drug that increases or quickens actions of the body |
| Disposable | Equipment that is used one time and then discarded |
| Bariatrics | Branch of medicine that deals with the causes, prevention, and treatment of obesity |
| Closed Bed | Made for a resident who will be out of bed all day. A bed made with bedspread, blankets, and pillows. |
| Open Bed | A bed made with linen folded down to the foot of the bed |
| Draw Sheet | An extra sheet placed on top of the bottom sheet; used for moving residents |
| Occupied Bed | Is a bed made while the resident is in the bed |
| Unoccupied Bed | Is a bed made while no resident is in the bed |
| Surgical Bed | Is made so that it can easily accept residents who must return to bed on stretchers or gurneys |
| Incontinence | The inability to control the bladder or bowels, which leads to an involuntary loss of urine or feces |
