| aliquot | A portion of a specimen used for testing |
| barcode | A visual depiction of data in the form of a code that can be read by electronic device. A barcode can be linear (1D) using a series of black stripes & white spaces or 2D using geometric patterns |
| body temperature | 36.4 to 37.6 C (37 C average) or 96.8 to 99.7 F (98.6 F avergae) |
| biobank | A type of repository or bank where human biological samples such as blood, saliva, plasma, skin cells, & organ tissues can be stored & used in research |
| breach | Data leak. Term in computer security that means a break in a firewall. The system that monitors & controls network traffic to prevent unauthorized access to or from the network |
| central/specimen processing | Screening & prioritizing area where specimens are received & prepared for testing |
| centrifugation | Specimen processing phase when the specimen tube is being spun at high speeds in a centrifuge |
| centrifuge | A machine that spins the blood tubes at a high number of revolutions per minute (speed) |
| cloud | Term for off-site computer data storage maintained by a third party |
| critical/panic value | Significantly abnormal test result that could indicate a life-threatening situation that requires immediate attention by the physician |

| postcentrifugation | Phase of the testing process that is after centrifugation & before removal of serum or plasma |

| precentrifugation | Phase of the testing process that occurs after specimen collection & before centrifugation |

| PTS/P-tube | Pneumatic Tube System - Transportation system that sends specimen carriers through tubes to the lab |

| tachometer | An instrument to check the speed (revolutions per minute) of a centrifuge |
| terminal | Combination of a computer screen & keyboard |

| username | A unique combination character, sometimes called an ID code or user ID, that identifies you as a system user |
