Chapter 4 Vocab Key Terms

combining form A word root combined with a vowel
combining vowel Makes pronunciation easier, most common vowel used is "o"
"Do Not Use" list A list of confusing (or potentially dangerous) abbreviations, symbols, & acronyms
prefix Comes before a word root &modifies its meaning by adding information such as presence or absence, location, number, or size
suffix A word ending that comes after a word root & adds to or changes the meaning of the word root
unique plural endings Distinctive Greek or Latin word endings that indicate more than one
word root Establishes the basic meaning of a medical term
