1. What is AD; BC? History is divided into TWO great time periods designated as “before Christ” (B.C.) and “ in the year of our Lord” (Latin: anno Domini, A.D.).
2. What is evolution? A philosophy some people believe that denies God as the creator and originator of life. This philosophy destroys man’s concept of the sanctity of life…reducing human-kind to no greater value than that of animals.
3. What is government? God ordained and empowered government to be an institution that has both authority and power to control, direct, and to rule in the actions and affairs of others. (Romans 13) All governments are accountable to God.
4. What does “sovereign” mean? God is “sovereign” (that is, God has SUPREME power over all governments, rulers and individuals) and all will answer to Him.
5. What is Deluge? Deluge refers to the World Wide Flood
6. What is capital punishment? God established civil government by ordering the death penalty (capital punishment) for murder.
7. What is postdiluvian? Postdiluvian refers to the time frame after the Great Flood.
8. What is Plain of Shinar? The specific place named “Plain of Shinar” refers to a place in lower Mesopotamia where Noah’s ark came to rest after The Flood.
9. What is Babel? the name of the city that was established in the in the Plain of Shinar by a rebellious postdiluvian population lead by Nimrod (later named Babylon)
10. What is humanism? Humanism is an expression of rebellion. It is man’s attempt to exalt himself in place of or above God, by building up man and by ignoring man’s accountability to God.
11. What is a nation? a large group of people who think of themselves as one and act in history as a single entity.
12. What is race? different kinds of people divided into groups on the basis of skin color, size and shape of head, kind and color of hair, and other such attributes.
13. What is Indo-European? Languages such as, Greek, Russian, Latin, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Persian, Hindi, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, German, Dutch, and English are all Indo-European languages; language spoken by the descendents of Noah’s son Japheth
14. What is the “focal point” of all history? The first advent of Jesus Christ to earth = His incarnation, birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension.
15. What is the approximate number of years from “The fall of man” to “The Flood”? Creation / Fall of Mankind c. 4000 B.C. to The Flood c. 2300 B.C. covers approximately 1900 years.
16. Who were the three sons of Noah? Shem, Ham, Japheth
17. Who was the builder of the first world empire and what is the meaning of his name? Nimrod, meaning “rebel” or “we will rebel”.
18. What event which marked the beginning of the world’s many languages, nations, and races? God’s response to the Tower of Babel where He confused the language and dispersed the people.
19. Who were the builders of the first two great civilizations after The Flood? Shinar (the Sumerians) and northeast Africa (Egypt : Egyptians)
20. The regions where the descendants of Shem, Ham,and Japheth migrated? Ham: Australia & islands of South Pacific (Melanesia & Micronesia)-Shem: Asia, Hwang Ho Valley,Modern Arabs & Jews, Arctic peoples, Pacific Islands –Japheth: Caucasus Mountains/Turkestan in Eurasia, Europe, Russia, India, parts of the Middle East.
21. What is history? Why is it important to study history? History is the memory of mankind—the written record of what men have done with the time God has given them. Study history so man will not repeat past mistakes.
22. What are some of the special characteristics that differentiate man from the animals? How did man acquire these characteristics? Man is special because he was created in the image of God. Animals were not. Man’s unique characteristics given to him by God are (1) language and thought, (2) awareness of the difference between right and wrong, and (3) freedom to make choices.
23. Why is history a study of both progress and decline? History is filled with stories of war, sickness, poverty, crime, hunger & death– History is also filled with noble deeds, acts of courage, honor, love, & the pursuit of truth & virtue resulting in building of great cities, nations, & great inventions
24. Identify the beginning, middle, and the end of history: Beginning: Creation; Middle: God’s act of redemption on the Cross; End: Christ’s return and Gods judgment of the world
25. Explain the origin of civil government God established human government by ordering the first foundational civil ordinance  the death penalty (capital punishment). - Gen. 18:25 “..shall not God judge the whole earth?” -- Ps. 24:1 “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof;
26. What are the twofold divisions of history? B.C. and A.D division of history
27. What are the threefold divisions of history? Threefold time era’s (1) ancient history: Beginning:c.4000 B.C to the fall of the Roman Empire A.D. 500; (2) Medieval: fall of Roman Empire to Protestant Reformation A.D. 1500 3)Modern: Protestant Reformation to present.
28. What is the origin of languages, nationalities and races? God confused the one language into many when the postdiluvian population decided to congregate in Babel instead of obeying His command to disperse. Groups of people that could communicate grouped together & migrated to various parts of the earth
29. What are the genetical explanations for languages, nationalities and races? Geneticists have observed three key factors that give rise to a new species within a short period of time:(1) a rapidly changing environment, (2) extensive inbreeding, and (3) a small population. When God dispersed Babel, all three began to operate.
30. Why is civil government necessary? In establishing the first foundational civil ordinance, God taught man the sanctity of human life and ordained that men set up systems of law and justice to restrain evil.
31. How are Christians instructed to respond to civil government? God did not tell mankind what form of government to establish, but He commanded Christians to be obedient to it. Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
