- Intercede - to pray for someone else or to pray to a saint for someone else; prayer, petition, or entreaty in favor of another
-Temptation- anything that influences you to disobey God, the inclination to sin
- Lent- 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It's a period of prep to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. inspired by Jesus' 40 days in the desert during the temptation
- Hava Nagila- The words are Hebrew for Let Us Rejoice. It is also a popular song and dance usually celebrated at weddings or jewish parties. (Hint: at Wedding at Cana)
- Fast- according to the Bible, means to voluntarily reduce or eliminate your intake of food for a specific time and purpose. (Hint: Often during lent)

- Who was present during the Baptism of Jesus? - John the Baptist (JTB,) Jesus, the three persons of the Holy trinity (God the Father, the son, and the Holy spirit,) and the commoners waiting to be baptized.
- Why was Jesus' baptism important? - it marks the beginning of Jesus' ministry and confirms his identity as the Son of God. it also unifies Jesus with the sinners even though he was divine and free of sin
- What was the dialogue at the baptism of Jesus? - John said "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me? ' Jesus replied, 'Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." After, God came from the heavens and said "This is my son with whom I am well pleased.

Jesus denied the chance to satisfy his hunger, even though he had been fasting for forty days and nights.

- Why was the 2nd temptation of Jesus important?- Jesus refused to use his power to prove his divinity. He knew he was divine and that he was the son of God, and did not need to prove it to anyone, especially due to pride and challenge. It continued to prove the New Adam's strength
- What was the dialogue of the 2nd temptation? - Satan told Jesus to throw himself off the temple, and the angels would come and save him Jesus said “You Shall not put the Lord your God, to the test,” (Matt 4:7, Deuteronomy 6:16)
- What happened at the 3rd temptation of Jesus? - Satan tempted Jesus with the offering of power over all the kingdoms over the world, in exchange for Jesus bowing down and worshipping him (Satan.)

- Why was the 3rd temptation of Jesus important? - This was a temptation of POWER Jesus officially triumphed over Satan and succeeded as the New Adam, steering away from temptation and adheres to the plan of salvation willed by the father
- What was the dialogue at the 3rd temptation of Jesus? - Jesus was told to worship to Satan in return for control of the world. Jesus rebuked him, saying “Get away, Satan! It is written “The lord your God shall you worship and him alone shall you serve” After, satan left, and the angels ministered him.
- General/Last Judgment - teaches that all will stand to be judged by God at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
- Apostle- any of the 12 disciples chosen by Jesus Christ, means “One who is sent out.” Apostles were meant to spread the word of God and convert people to Christianity as well as follow his teachings.
- Particular Judgement - the divine judgment that a departed (dead) person undergoes immediately after death; immediate judgement where God decides whether you are condemned to hell, sent to heaven, or placed in purgatory
- Parable - a short and simple story that teaches a religious or moral lesson (Ex: the parable mustard seed, the boy who cried wolf)
- Kingdom of God - - also called Kingdom Of Heaven, in Christianity, the spiritual realm over which God reigns as king, - or the fulfillment on Earth of God's will.
What was the primary goal of Jesus’ public ministry? to preach the truth about the kingdom of God and how one may receive it by trusting only in Christ
what was the purpose of the Transfiguration? the purpose was to reveal Jesus to us in his full glory so that it changes us from within and enables us to live lives that glorify him on this earth
What are miracles a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency; humanly impossible and can only be divinely done
why did Jesus perform miracles to strengthen the faith of those who believed in him, because he loved and had compassion for those in need, and because of the faith of those who believed, a sign of the prophecies fulfilled
what is the kingdom of God? the spiritual realm over which God reigns as king, or the fulfillment on Earth of God's will on earth.
Who does the Kingdom of God belong to? Everyone. Everyone is welcome, But mostly those who were treated unfairly on earth "Blessed are the poor, for yours is the Kingdom of God." (Luke 6: 17-26)
Who is Peter? the first pope (Matthew 16:18). Jesus also gave him “the keys of the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 16:19)
Why is Peter important? a model for Christians to follow, failings are treated as symptoms of man’s state of sinfulness or weakness which can be overcome through faith in Jesus. Jesus called him the "Rock" that the Church was built on.
what role do church leaders have today that represent the role of Peter? the role of humility with an emphasis on their role as servant leaders and shepherds of God's flock. Peter was the first Pope, so he is a model to all Popes.
- Paschal- Means "Passover,"
- Eucharist - means "Thanksgiving," and is a reenactment ritual of the last supper, including the real Bread and Body of Jesus.
- Doctrine of the Real Presence - the Christian doctrine that Jesus Christ is present in the Eucharist, not merely symbolically or metaphorically, but in a true, real and substantial way. it is the real Body and Blood of Christ.
- Bread of Life Discourse - “Amen I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life." The conversation at the last supper.
What was the feast of Passover? a feast with wine and unleavened bread, and sometimes a sacrificial Lamb that commemorates when God freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.
How are the symbols of Passover and the Last Supper related? Jesus taught his disciples that the wine and the bread signified that he would become the sacrificial lamb by which sins are forgiven and reconciliation with God can occur. Symbolizes Jesus freeing them from sin as God did with the slaves.
How is Passover connected to the Eucharist? The Passover meal reminds Jews of how God's love delivered them from Egypt, the Eucharist reminds us of how God's love saves us from our sins through Jesus.
Who was St. Justin Martyr Early Christian apologist and philosopher. Rusticus interrogated him and told him that if only he denied his faith and followed the pagan gods and the edicts of the emperor, his life could be spared. But Justin held fast in his faith
what did St. Justin Martyr teach? Taught that Christianity is the new law for all men, and to prove from Scripture that Jesus is the Messiah. He taught that the Logos (Word) became incarnate to teach humanity truth and to redeem people from the power of the demons.
why is it important to eat and drink Jesus' Flesh and Blood? Eating his flesh symbolizes one's purpose to do God's will. Drinking his blood is to acknowledge our need for his forgiveness.
What do we need in order to truly accept that the bread and wine are truly Jesus’ Body and Blood, Soul, and Divinity? Faith in Jesus and the mysteries.
How does Jesus fulfill His promise, “I am with you always, until the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20) Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to be with us always.
Today, how do we participate in Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross? through the sacraments, especially the eucharist where we consume the body and blood of Christ and are thankful for his sacrifice
- Redemption - the promise of God to deliver us from the power and presence of sin.
- Paschal Lamb - the Christian view of Christ who by his death freed mankind from the bonds of sin. a name for Jesus because of his sacrifice.
- Golgotha - meaning "The place of the skull," the place where Jesus was crucified and killed.
- The Lamb of God - A name given to Jesus regarding God giving Jesus to be killed like a lamb for our sins so we could live forever.
who was Judas was a disciple and one of the original Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ. (Hint: betrayer)
What did Judas do to Jesus? he betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver, one of the first events that lead to Jesus' crucifixion
what did Peter do to Jesus? he denied knowing him three times, but after the third denial, he heard the rooster crow and recalled the prediction as Jesus turned to look at him. Peter then began to cry bitterly. This final incident is known as the Repentance of Peter.
What does it mean to call Jesus the Suffering Servant? it means he will suffer on behalf of another, he suffered and died for our sins. he served God and the sinners, and suffered.
How are we saved through the Death of Jesus? He suffered for our salvation - if we repent. As we turn away from our sins and follow the Savior instead, we can find forgiveness and healing. Because of the Savior, we can progress spiritually in this life and have eternal life with our God.
How did Jesus make His Death and suffering redemptive? By his passion and death on the cross Christ has given a new meaning to suffering: it can then tie us to him and unite us with his redemptive Passion.
- Pentecost - meaning 50, The day the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles, causing them to speak in tongues (Different languages). 50 days after easter
- Assumption - the doctrine that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken (assumed) into heaven, body and soul, following the end of her life on Earth.
Who was present at Jesus’ tomb first on the morning of His resurrection? Mary Magdalene, and the angels telling her what happened, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome,
What was the Transfiguration? an event described in the New Testament, where Jesus is transfigured and becomes radiant in glory upon a mountain.
Who was present at the Transfiguration? *The clouds count as someone. Jesus took Peter, James and John up a high mountain. He was transfigured – his face shone like the sun and his clothes became dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus. The holy Trinity were represented by the Clouds in the sky.
Were Jesus’ resurrection and Lazarus’ resurrection the same? No, In His risen body, Jesus passes from the state of death to another life beyond time and space. Lazarus was raised and would live an earthy life and die as human and receive judgement like everyone else, though both were miracles.
What did Jesus do that shows His’ resurrection transcends time and space? no one witnessed him change from death to physical being. He was also said to go to Hell and back and still come back and walk the earth and then go to heaven.
Why is the Resurrection considered a transcendent event? it goes beyond (transcends) history and our understanding of time and space. No one actually witnessed the transformation of Jesus' body into a glorified body.
Who is Our Lady and what does she model for us? Mother Mary, she is a role model of love, devotion, and faith. Through her “yes,” to carrying Jesus despite her fear, she sealed our salvation

What are the two reasons we know Jesus’ Resurrection was an actual historical event? to a crowd of more than 500 witnesses. Jesus' Resurrection was a historical, physical event: the tomb was empty, and Jesus walked among us, touched us, and ate with us.
What are 3 ways that show the significance of the Resurrection? Without the resurrection, Jesus’ death would go without divine interpretation and endorsement. Without the resurrection, none of Jesus’ promises would be trustworthy Without the resurrection, there would be no model of sacrificial living. (etc)
Why do we say in our creed that Jesus descended into Hell? Why did Jesus descend into Hell before His Resurrection? because he went to hell before he resurrected. He wanted to liberate and help those in hell before he resurrected. to liberate those spirits who, from antiquity, have been held in prison.
What are the 3 events of the Paschal Mystery? DEATH- Jesus was sentenced and crucified. RESURRECTION- Jesus resurrects and walks the earth for 40 days. ASCENSION- Jesus Miraculously ascends to heaven.
What does Mary’s Assumption into Heaven foreshadow? serves as a foreshadowing of the bodily resurrection that we long for at the end of the age.
What does it mean that Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father in Heaven? refers to the Messiah, the LORD Jesus Christ, and He is of equal position, honor, power, and authority with God (John 1:1-5) He is "seated" because his work on earth is complete and he is now in heaven with the Father.
What is symbolized by the fact that Jesus’ ascended into Heaven 40 days after His Resurrection? Moses' life is divided into three 40-year segments, separated by his growing to adulthood, fleeing from Egypt, and his return to lead his people out. Jesus grew, sacrificed, and returned to ascend and grant us life with the Lord.
Why did Jesus ascend into Heaven and not remain with His Apostles? He wanted to give us an “Advocate,” the Holy Spirit to guide us in truth. so that we might have the gift of his presence in the Eucharist. He also wanted the Apostles to go out and Preach the word of God.
How did the events of Jesus’ Paschal Mystery affect the faith of the Apostles? the Apostles were at first terrified due to the crucifixion of Jesus. However they had extreme faith in him and God when he ascended and Resurrected. Jesus fulfilled all his promises, extending their faith.
In what way does Jesus continue to assist us in Heaven? Through the Eucharist, the way he prays for us in heaven and listens to our prayers, and by sending the Holy spirit to guide us in everything we do.
In what ways does the Holy Spirit assist the Church? it helps congregations undertake such crucial tasks as preaching/teaching, worship, healing, governance, making disciples of converts, and evangelism.
- Faith - the theological virtue by which we believe in God and believe all that he has said and revealed to us is true and real, and that Holy Church proposes for our belief, because he is truth itself.
- Hope - true expectation of God's promises. this gift comes from God and leads us back to God. We receive the gift in Baptism. allows the possibility for Christians to trust in God, with things that seem difficult or impossible such as salvation.
- Love - a habitual and firm disposition to seek to become like the Lord in concrete situations, loving God and our neighbor, and giving us the spiritual freedom of the children of God
- virtue - an habitual and firm disposition to do the good. It allows the person not only to perform good acts, but to give the best of himself.
What are two ways that we can increase our Theological Virtues? nourishing them through reading the Word of God, daily prayer to increase them in us, receiving the Sacraments to strengthen us to persevere in living the virtues, studying the Faith in an ongoing way, cooperating with the Holy Spirit
What are four reasons we practice faith, hope, and love? to strengthen our relationship with God, to become a better servant of the Lord, To live a life of Christ trusting in the Lord your God, and to love you neighbor
What are the last Four Things? Death, Judgment, Heaven, and Hell,
What are the two types of Judgement? Individual judgement- the moment directly after death where the soul is sent to either heaven, hell, or purgatory. Final judgement- last judgement at the end of the world where everyone is resurrected and judged by the Lord.
What are 3 facts about Death? Every human being will spend eternity in one of two extreme eternal destinations, God Loves you and wants you to come to heaven, heaven is not the default destination.
how is suffering personal? Suffering is a product of the fall, a consequence of human sin against God. Suffering is due to us living in a broken world. Some suffering is due to our sinful and wrong choices, but some is due simply to the world being fallen.
what is heaven? a parallel realm where everything operates according to God's will. Heaven is a place of peace, love, community, and worship, where God is surrounded by a heavenly court and other heavenly beings.
What is hell? the dwelling place of those who reject God irrevocably, whose alienation from God is a permanent expression of their own ill-used freedom, and whose suffering is at once physical (burning by fire) and spiritual (deprivation of God)
What is Purgatory? the condition, process, or place of purification or temporary punishment in which, the souls of those who die in a state of grace are made ready for heaven.
How does our conscience help us? helps us hear the voice of God; it helps us recognize the truth about God and the truth about how we should to live.
Why is proper formation of our conscience important? so we can be prepared to make decisions whenever the opportunity arises. when we are faced with the challenges of daily life, our consciences can help guide us well
How does our intellect or "reason" help us form our conscience? it helps us to see whether an action is right or wrong based on objective principles rather than what we 'think is right" It is based on past experiences and lessons.
What are the 4 ways we develop a well-formed conscience? Learn the moral teachings of the Catholic church, engage in sincere prayer, frequent and honest self-examination/reflection, participate frequently in reconciliation
- What are the two great commandments? "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. " This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it "Love your neighbor as yourself.
What is conversion? a turning—a spiritual turning away from sin in repentance and to Christ in faith.
What is the story of Saul Saul was a corrupt leader who was killing and hurting Jews for their religion, and when he was on his way to Demascus to capture more, He heard the voice of God, Who Blinded him, and when he was healed, he converted and devoted life to him.
What was the dialogue between Saul and Jesus? "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" "Who are you, Lord?" Saul asked. "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," he replied. "Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do."

Why is Pentecost significant for the Catholic Church? the occasion of the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ. it became a feast commemorating this occasion.
How old is the Catholic Church? dates back around 2000 years.
What does the Greek word Pentecost mean? The name comes from the Greek word "Pentekoste" which means fiftieth. The holiday is celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter which is also fifty days after Easter, hence the name.
What were the Jewish people celebrating at their Pentecost? They were celebrating the fiftieth day after Passover, and the Last supper.

What is the Story of St. Rita and how did she receive the Stigmata? Rita was devoted to the passion and suffering of Jesus. She received a special form of the stigmata when a wound opened on her forehead similar to what would have resulted from the crown of thorns Jesus wore.
Who was Pope St. Gregory the Great and what was he known for? the bishop of Rome from 3 September 590 to his death. He is known for instituting the first recorded large-scale mission from Rome, the Gregorian mission, to convert the then largely pagan Anglo-Saxons to Christianity.
