compass This piece of Chinese technology was used to determine direction and allowed for navigation on both sea and land
Astrolabe This piece of Arab technology was used the stars to determine latitude north and south of the equator and allowed for sea trade
caravan This was a group of people, both traders/merchants and religious travelers, who traveled together for safety along trade routes

Mansa Musa He was the emperor of Mali whose hajj to Mecca drew attention to Mali's wealth and expanded Muslim learning and culture in Africa
