What happens when the Israelites cross the Jordan? The water stopes flowing so they can cross, and one of the 12 tribes carries a stone across an creates a memorial -this arrival was a gift from God not something they accomplished on their own

What do the books of Joshua and Judges tell us about the return of the Israelites to the Promised Land? That is was hard, and they are both stories of settlement -Joshua- Settlement by force- Less historical -Judges- Settlement amongst Canaanites- more historically accurate

What is Samson’s strength? He has immense physical strength, and it was tied to his hair which he could not cut
How does Samson die? when he grasped two pillars of the Temple of Dagon and "bowed himself with all his might"
What is the purpose of the story of Samson? We learn that when we are faithful to God and his covenant with us, he is close and supports us in our lives, but when we don’t we can fall into sin and under the rule of oppressors and bad people. - to teach us we need God and when hes far we are bad
What are the lessons from the story of Ruth? Lesson in loyalty- Ruth is loyal to Naomi God love all- goes beyond the Israelites Welcome the foreigner- Boaz welcome Ruth God works through faithfulness of ordinary people- no kings in story of Ruth
What future practice amongst the Israelites does the book of Ruth challenge? Jewish marriages were banned with foreigners during this time, so the book presented a challenge to it
What does Boaz let Ruth do? What social justice law did Ruth benefit from? Glean in the fields - equity or participation
