Plateau of Tibet Called the "Roof of the World" because its elevations are so high.
Huang He River Northern China's major river system. Also called the "Yellow River" becuase it carries tons of loess that blows in from deserts in western China.
Loess Fine, yellow-brown soil, carried in tons by the Hunag He River.
Yangtze River Also called the "Chiang Jiang", it is Asia's longest river.
Ring of Fire An area covered with volcanoes and earthquakes that can take place any time. Located in Southeast Asia.
Three Gorges Dam Built on the Yangtze River, the Three Gorges Dam, is the world's largest dam. Chinese officials hope that it provides enough energy for Chinese people.
Silk Road Large trading network from China to Southwest Asia. Many ideas and influences have been exchanged on this network.
Earliest Chinese Inventions PAPER - 100 a.d. - HAN DYNASTY STEEL - ? - TANG & SONG DYNASTY
Mongols Well-trained warriors from central Asia that invaded and conquered most of China. The Mongols kept their own language, laws and customs.
Buddhism Founded in India by Siddhartha Gautama. Has had a great impact on East & Southeast Asia.
Confucianism A Chinese philosopher who taught about government, law, family relations, religion, and edcuation.
Shinto Native religion of Japan. It began centuries ago. Unlike other religions, it has no organized set of teachings, no known historical founder, and no moral code.
Shoguns Japan's first military leaders,
Samurai Landowning warriors that supported the shoguns and protected them.
Asian Tigers South Korea, Taiwan, & Hong Kong have exclusive rights.
