active physical restraint a restraint attached to the person's body and to a stationary (nonmovable) object; movement and access to one's body are restricted
coma a state of being unaware of one's surroundings and being unable to react or respond to people, places, or things
disaster a sudden catastrophic event in which many people are injured and killed and property is destroyed
ground that which carries leaking electricity to the earth and away from an electrical appliance
hazardous substance any chemical that presents a physical hazard or a health hazard in the workplace
hemiplegia paralysis on one side of the body
paraplegia paralysis from the waist down
passive physical restraint a restraint near but not directly attached to the person's body; it does not totally restrict freedom of movement and allows access to certain body parts
quadriplegia paralysis from the neck down
restraint any item, object, device, garment, material, or chemical that restricts a person's freedom of movement or access to one's body
suffocation when breathing stops from the lack of oxygen
workplace violance any physical assault or threatening behaviour or verbal abuse that occurs in a work setting
