Migration

What does Migration mean? the act of moving from one place to settle in another.
What were the three categories that caused migrations? environmental, economic, and political
What is push-pull factors? conditions that draw people to another location (pull factors) or cause people to leave their homelands and migrate to another region (push factors).
How did experts trace the patterns of movement of people over time? by studying the spread of languages
What people made some of the greatest migrations in history? the Early Africans
Where did the Bantu-speaking people originally live? The Bantu-speaking peoples originally lived in the savanna south of the Sahara, in the area that is now southeastern Nigeria
When did Migration begin? at least 2,000 years ago or earlier
What was one new crop that the Bantu-speaking people learned to cultivate? the banana
What usually happened when the Bantu speakers spread south into hunter-gatherers’ land? territorial wars usually broke out
Where are the Mbuti now? the Mbuti are confined to a corner of the Congo Basin
