What impacts did the Bantu migration have on the cultures on the east coast of Africa? They established farming and fishing villages, increased trade, introduced new resources and materials, technology, and language.
what role did trade play in the increase of prosperity in African societies. What were the two primary goods traded? Trade played an important role in the economy of many African Empires, trading with different regions with different cultures. The two main goods are salt and gold.
which countries had enslaved Africans in their market? What was the job enslaved Africans had? Arabia, Persia, Iraq, India, China, and Europe had enslaved Africans in their market. The jobs were slightly different in each country but it was mainly being servants, soldiers, doing domestic tasks, and labor work
How did Zimbabwe taking control of trade routes affect the civilization? Great Zimbabwe became the economic, political, and religious center of its empire because the leaders taxed the traders who traveled the routes while demanding payments from less powerful chiefs.
Why did the Portuguese conquer the East African city-states? The Portuguese wanted the wealth East African city-states had.
How was the Swahili language created? When trade increased in the East coast trade cities, many Muslim Arab and Persian traders settled in the cities and as result Arabic blended with the Bantu language creating the Swahili language
Why did Zimbabwe have an economic advantage? The city of Great Zimbabwe was located near an important trade route linking the goldfields with the coastal trading city of Sofala, when they took control of these routes gave them an economic advantage
what geographic advantages did Zimbabwe have that impacted the growth of the city-state? the land was fertile, well-watered plateau, the area was well suited to farming and cattle raising, and was close to an important trade route.
Existing coastal villages became busy seaports, built on trade between East African merchants and traders from which countries? From Arabia, Persia, and India, and as trade increased further many Muslim Arab and Persian traders settled into the port cities
What was the result of the Portuguese trying to conquer the Mutapa Empire? The Portuguese failed to conquer the empire so, they interfered in Mutapa politics. They helped to overthrow one ruler and replace him with one they could control. This warned increasing European interference in Africa in centuries to come.
