| ephors | leaders of Ancient Sparta |
| comedy | a performance intended to make an audience laugh |
| tragedy | a performance featuring tragic events and having an unhappy ending |
| Olympic Games | athletic contests held to honor Zeus and the other gods |
| Socratic Method | a form of discussion by asking and answering questions to engage in critical thinking (by doing so, it will illuminate useful ideas) |
| Minoan | bronze age civilization on the island of Crete |
| Mycenaean | late bronze age civilization that arose after the Minoan civilization |
| The Iliad | epic poem written by Homer that is set during the Trojan War |
| The Odyssey | epic poem written by Homer that is the sequel to The Iliad |
