Command Economy system in which Soviet government officials made all basic economic decisions
Collectives large farms owned and operated by peasants as a group; government provided tractors, fertilizers, and better seed; peasants learned modern farming methods
Kulaks wealthy peasant farmers in the Soviet Union in the 1930s
Terror Famine scarce agriculture output caused by the soviet government's seizure of all of farmers' grains in order to meet industrial goals; as a result, millions died of starvation because they resisted giving up their land to the government
Purges reign of terror when the government rid of Old Bosheviks and anyone who seemed to support conterrevolutionary plots or who failed to meet production quotas by charging them with crimes
Cult of Personality Stalin's attempt to boost the morale and faith in the Communist system by making himself a godlike figure
