Ten Commandments

Explanations

CommandmentExplanation
1. You shall have no other gods before me. God created us and everything around us. He loves us and cares for us. Because of this, nothing should be put before God.
2. You shall not say the Lord's name is vain. When we do this, we blame God for our problems instead of praying to him for solutions. All people were made in God's image and likeness, so we should not disrespect other peoples' names as well.
3. Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy. God created all of us and deserves our respect. He only asks for 1 hour every Sunday. The church has changed some, so now if you have work and wouldn't be able to make it on Sundays, you come on Saturday nights or other days too.
4. Honor your father and mother. Like God, our parents brought us into this world. So they deserves our respect and should obey them. The church has changed and now you don't have to blindly follow them, but listen. This extends to other adults and authority figures.
5. You shall not kill. All life is sacred, so it is sinful to take it away. God put us into this world and he should be our way out. Murder, suicide, euthanasia, and abortion are all sinful. The church has changed and now if you kill for self defence it's ok.
6. You shall not commit adultery. Marriage is for life, so cheating and divorce are sinful. Sexual acts that aren't with your spouse are not allowed. This extends to friendships and breaking their trust. The church changed and they don't interfere much in this aspect.
7. You shall not steal. Taking things that don't belong to you is sinful. The church has changed and if you steal for your family or to survive, you will be forgiven. Stealing for and addiction is bad.
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. Lying is wrong, even if saying the truth would have consequences. In court, you swear on the bible, you are asking God to back you up.
9. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. Wanting someone's spouse and going about nefarious ways to break them up is sinful. Choose to not be jealous, be pure.
10. You shall not covet your neighbor's goods. Wanting someone's things and going about nefarious ways to take it away from them is sinful. Choose to not be jealous, be pure.
