Who killed whom? Cain killed Abel
What does this story demonstrate by being told just after the story of Original Sin and the Fall of Humanity? This story demonstrates; how quickly and extreme sin spreads.
What does God call him to do, and why does God choose him? God chose/call Noah to build the ark because was/is a righteous man.
What does God promise in his covenant with Noah? God promises Noah that he won’t wipe out humanity.
Do humans need to do anything on their end? No.
What is the difference between a contract and a covenant? Contract: agreement between a person (can break easily) Covenant: agreement forever (does not break even if someone disagrees)
Why did the Babylonians want to build a tower? Babylonians built the tower to feel like God.
What is God's response to this action? God causes them to speak different languages.
What does this story teach us about the nature of sin? This teaches us about the nature of sin by showing that they “have this idea”
What was his name before "Abraham"? Abram.
Who was his wife? Sarai/Sarah
What were the four promises God makes to Abraham as his covenant? What are humans expected to do in response? The four promises were, many descendants/offspring — bless all the families around the world — promised land of Canaan — his (Abraham) name will be great. Humans were expected to be circumcised at 8 days old.
What country does "Canaan" later become? Israel (wrestles with God)
Who was Hagar? What was the name of the child she had with Abraham? Hagar was Sarai’s servant, her son was named Ishmael.
What is Abraham and Sarah's son's name? Isaac
What did God ask Abraham to do with his son? Kill him (Isaac)
What similarities are there between Jesus and Isaac (be prepared to list and explain a few) They were both sacrificed for a good cause — only beloved son(s) — Miraculous birth — They both carried wood for the sacrifice — etc.
What is the order of the names (Isaac, Abraham, Joseph, Jacob, etc.)? Abraham, Isaac, Jacob/Israel, Joseph (and his 11 brothers)
Jacob's name is changed to what? Israel (wrestles with God)
Why are Joseph's brothers jealous of him? What do they do to him? They were jealous of him because he was favored, had a beautiful coat and he had special powers (could interpret dreams) They sold Joseph into slavery in Egypt
How do Jacob's sons end up in Egypt? There was a famine.
What surprising action does Joseph take in response to his brothers' arrival? Joseph forgave his brothers.
Why is Abraham called the "father of faith"? Abraham follows God’s instructions, he trusts Him. Abraham was the first person to have a unique relationship with God (father = first). Christianity, Judaism, Islam all claim him as their forefather.
